Can You Include Song Lyrics in Your Book?    by Jason Boog

Lyrics are copyrighted, and permission to use them in your own work is required in most cases. You must seek permission of the copyright holder, who may or may not grant you permission. And, if they do, they will stipulate the terms and could require a fee. Getting an answer of any kind could take a while; so be sure to allow plenty of time for the permission-seeking process.

Those who self-publish should get acquainted with the copyright laws. There is plenty of information about copyright at the U.S. Copyright Office website, including Copyright Basics, FAQs, fees, etc.
