Donna Thompson is the owner of Woodpecker Press, LLC, which focuses on providing editorial services to academic & scholarly publishers and associations. Her focus is proofreading and copy editing engineering and medical journal articles and books. For associations who organize and host engineering conferences, she edits the various components of their conference program books.
Donna’s passions are publishing and public relations. She loves helping business owners understand the value of public relations. Her business background together with her long career in publishing allow her to share her unique combination of insight.
Woodpecker Press is the publisher of the Big Bold Book series, which included three volumes, each including chapters written by business owners for business owners.
Her publishing career spans more than 40 years, including ten years with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, where she was a managing editor in the Technical Publishing Department; eight years with Industry Publications, Inc., as associate editor of two trade magazines; and two years with the American Electroplaters Society as assistant editor of a trade magazine. She also owned drtEnterprises, LLC, for 18 years, a freelance editorial services firm that was merged into Woodpecker Press in 2014.
Donna is a member of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (www.NJAWBO.org), where serves on the NJAWBO state board. She served on the NJAWBO MetroEast chapter board from 2005 to 2012 and as a trustee on the Rutgers-Newark Small Business Development Center Advisory Board (2006–2008). She is also on the Board of Trustees of Sempre Avanti, Inc.
She is a past member of the Independent Book Publishers Association.
Elected to the Cedar Grove Board of Education in 1999, Donna served as both vice president and president. She co-founded the Cedar Grove Education Foundation, Inc., in 2003 and served as its president from 2005 to 2008.
